Reviving the 60s: Dmitry Pozarenko's Nostalgic Perfumery Store Design

Award-winning interior design that marries industrial chic with the glamour of the sixties

Dmitry Pozarenko's design for a perfumery store, aptly named 'Nostalgia', is a unique blend of industrial aesthetics and 60s glamour. Inspired by old industrial landscapes, the design is a tribute to the era of belief in a bright future, now replaced by a digital reality.

The store's design stands out for its hybrid nature, embodying the trading space of the post-consumerism era and disillusionment with the myths of glamour. The use of rusty profiled sheets from old fences creates an atmosphere of complete freedom of expression. The equipment's metal structures, made from hot-rolled steel of different sections, add a realistic touch of anti-utopia. The granite countertops and shabby plaster contribute to the interior's industrial chic, reminiscent of the sixties.

The store, spanning an area of 1630 sq.m., is located in the heart of Moscow and was completed in 2018. It serves as a hub of attraction and communication for over 2000 people daily. The store hosts presentations of new products in the field of perfumery and cosmetics, as well as master classes by famous makeup artists. It's a place where makeup artists and cosmetologists share their professional skills, train, apply makeup, and engage in conversations with customers.

The design process involved the use of hot-rolled steel, tinted stainless steel, profiled sheet, granite, and oak as the main construction materials. The project's creative challenge was to recreate the industrial atmosphere of the 60-70s of the 20th century. This was achieved through various types of manual steel processing in equipment manufacturing. The warmth of the space is further enhanced by old window frames, sawn and laid vertically on the wall, along with the old profiled sheet, allowing the viewer to experience historical authenticity.

The design of 'Nostalgia' resolves the contradiction between the individuality of a person and the leveling difference of the city's strength, between the individual human 'I' and the monolithic urbanistic 'WE'. This inversion of the external and internal, the interchange of the city and man, introduces an urban spirit into the interior space. The design was inspired by the industrial landscapes of the 1960-1970s, with the metal structures creating a realistic intonation of anti-utopia. The rusty profiled sheet of old fences creates an atmosphere of complete freedom of expression. Open technical communications, shabby plaster, and granite countertops add to the interior industrial chic of the sixties.

This unique design earned Dmitry Pozarenko a Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020. The award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
